I think it's about time that Scotty is potty trained. I was just changing Scotty's poopy diaper. As soon as I started to open the diaper, Scotty reached down and grabbed a handful of squishy poop. I hurried to grab the wipes and looked over and he was squishing it in his hand---like toes in mud, giggling like crazy. The more disgusted I got, the more delirious he was in his laughter. I know a lot of people say that you shouldn't push your kid to potty train, that you should just wait until they are interested but.........................now every time he has poopies, he's going to think that he should play in it. Any suggestions on the best ways to get them to use the "big boy potty" and what rewards work the best???????? He has been interested in sitting on the potty off and on but nothing has ever actually happened. Lately he's been refusing to sit on it. I need HELP!!!!!!!

Oh the joys!!!! I wish I had the best advice...I was in your situation a year and a half ago and I still never figured it out. I tried everything and it still took him over a year to get it down right to where he is in big boy underwear. I guess I am not good at training because it took way too long. There are the people that swear by certain techniques and some kids that train themselves. I really think it's all about the kid and when they're ready. My advice is to introduce it to him and keep it positive and interesting. I think the rest is up to the kid. Sorry I'm not much help.
YIKES! I think I would have barfed :). Potty training was not my finest moments with Brans...we tried for about two weeks and that stretch ended with me yelling s*@! and smacking the wall(no not my kid). That was after pulling down his unders TWICE(you'd think I'd learn) suspecting nothing and flinging poop all over the bathroom while I am helping him take his pants off. After that(and throwing a lot of soiled underwear away) I figured I needed a break, with the cussing and all. About a month later we made him a chart and bought CARS stickers to put on it and when he filled it up he got a Lightning McQueen skateboard...also I had a jar of jelly beans and he got some every time he went. He just got it the second time, I am not looking forward to doing it ever again though.
Oh man Raysha, I don't even know what to say to that one. Good luck.
Hiya, Raysha! So sorry to hear about the diaper incident. I KNOW I woulda puked.
We have a gum ball machine that our Aunt gave us, and every time Noah went stinky on the potty he got a penny for the gumball machine.
Then we had to up the ante...we bribed him with a big-boy-bike. Check out my "I'm NOT Above Bribery" blog. It worked PERFECTLY! You have to find what you can bribe your kid with and run with it. GOOD LUCK!!!
I would have to agree with bribery!!! Ansley had been potty trained for over six months but had a fear of pooping in the toilet and would ask for a diaper. I would go days before I would finally give in not wanting to make her sick. I decided to give her toys when she would go poop in the toilet. I thought I was going to go broke but it didn't take very long. I had a stash in the closet. One was a little people swing set with a lot of different pieces. So each time she went she got another piece of the set. Also...I was pregnant with Adalyn and I told her that we had to save the rest of the diapers for the new baby. She also loves candy, so I threw some of that in too! GOOD LUCK!!!
I'm all about the bribery also, I would give them candy everytime they went, and the first time they pooped we made a big deal out of it. Good luck, I hate potty-training.
hey thanks! im pretty excited! i hope all is well with your family
