I've had quite a few people tell me that I should make my diaper bags, burp clothes, hooded towels, etc. and sell them. Derrick really wants me to do it. I need a little input though. How many of you would purchase something like this--everything homemade? How much would you pay or how much do you think I should ask for them? What do you think would be the best way to get them out there? A blog with a paypal link? Word of mouth? Have people I know host "parties?" Take them to little boutiques? Etsy shop? I'm not sure the best way to do this or if it will work out. I think I need some input. PLEASE???? This is the last "diaper bag" that I made for my sister Suzi. But, I don't think it would have to be used for a diaper bag either. Do you think it would sell just as a fun bag?

I also made a burp cloth to match. I'm thinking of doing sets with the diaper bag, burp cloth, a small changing pad and a "Binkie bag" that attaches to the diaper bag---maybe even a nursing cover (like Hooter Hiders) to match. I'm looking for honest input and opinions. Please help me out!!!

Oh my goodness, that's adorable. I would love your talent.
I have a few ideas for advertising but send me your email. I just have a few from all the blog surfing I have done but too detailed to leave in a long boring post.
I also think you need to make those "hooter hider"things also which right now are selling like hot cakes. They are nursing covers and I love mine. Look at targe.com under nursing covers to see what they look like if you haven't seen them. It has a strap that goes around your neck and a little pocket for a burp cloth. Those bags are so darn cute!!
Raysha, that is a great talent, and I think it's a good idea to sell them. I know that we love the burp-clothes that you made for Gracie. That bag looks great. I'm not sure about pricing or marketing, but I'll brainstorm during church tomorrow ! ;)
I would sooooo buy that bag, baby or no baby, and for our next kiddo I'm definitely "hiding my hooters" with one of those thingy's, so I would suggest making those too.
I love your idea and think you should go for it!
I think all of the above advertising ideas are good, if you can, I'd try them all and get your stuff out there.
Let me know, we'll be you first customers!
I say sell them. I've had several people ask me where I got the bag you made me. My neighbor said you should make a big one that could be used as a beach bag. Something to think about. I like the idea of a matching set also. I don't know what the going rate for cute bags is right now, but I'm positive people would buy them
I have been trying to get ahold of you FOREVER, please call me. 507-1010. Sheridan
Diaper bag or not they are definately awesome. YOu should have no problem selling them.
those are adorable, Im not sure how to market, but I would say a lot of my friends have done well on Etsy. Yep, sign me up for the hooter hider as well
I also think that they are awesome bags and that you should sell them. Have you looked around on Etsy and places like that to see what pricing might be on similar items. That might help in deciding how to price your stuff. I love the matched set idea. I think it would be a great seller.
As to how to do the actually selling of the items, I'm just not sure. Etsy would probably be good and word of mouth is always great. I'm not sure how it works for sure, but you might need to get a business liscense and then it would be fun to make up some cute business cards. Maybe you could send a few to each customer who buys one and ask them to pass them around to friends or to people who ask about their bag.
I'll keep brainstorming for you.
When are you coming to visit next. We are hoping to take another trip to the zoo sometime the end of September or first of October before our membership runs out so we will let you know and hopefully you guys can come with us.
Wow! I just realized that I do not know how to use questions marks today. I need to go back to bed! :)
I would have totally bought a nursing cover from you, I was so jealous of Kathy's, but my time with this is almost over,....anyways, it looks awesome. On my blog there is a link to "She's got it all" and I think they may have similar items to price match too. Also I would make an additional blog and tell all of your friends to make a post about it and a link to it in your link list....that would definitely get you some traffic.
Hey Raysha!!
I would definently go for the paypal option. I love using it and knowing that I don't have to write check or give out any of my info. I would do anything that YOU think you can handle. I you think you can maintain another website and accept paypal, do it! Then you can take picts of all your bags you've made and people can pick and choose.
I am a HUGE fan of the package deal. I would love to have a bag, burpies, blanket and hooter hider in a fabric that I LOVE. Or in fabrics that correspond to each other.
If I bought on and someone asked me where I got it, it would be nice to hand them a card with your website or etsy page on it so they can see all you have to offer, but remember, if you do etsy, you will have to add shipping charges to all you sell.
I would not have a hard time buying a bag with matching burpies for thirty bucks, as long as I got to choose the color.
All said and done, YOU GO GIRL!!!
Love the bag! You should totally go for it, I just might need one for this little Little.
Go for it! Those are ridiculously cute. I don't have much advice on how to go about selling them. One of my students' dads makes similar bags. He did it mostly word of mouth. For every bag he made, he's stick some business cards in it. People always comment on the bags so your customers could hand them a card. However you decide to sell them, let me know and I'll work on getting you some Texas orders!
Very cute Raysha! Word of mouth is always good! I like all the ideas you have already received. Business cards are great to hand out. Especially if you have a site showing all of your products and a variety of fabrics. I say site but a blog would be great. I have a friend that works with a lady that sells vinyl from a blog. http://urbanlettering.blogspot.com it is not the same as what you are wanting to sell but she works at home and maybe you could just see how she has it set up with photos and options for what can be ordered. I would totally get a package deal whether I use it for a diaper bag or not. And just save the baby stuff for a rainy day...or another baby comes along :-)
I would have a party too! Whatevery it takes to get you on this side of town!!!
I am a very stylish gay man from San Francisco and I say you go girl. Double snapps to you!! I dont have any kids, but with a bag like that I wouldn't mind them. I would look so fabulous. Anywho keep up the Mariah like style. P.S. your husband is sooooo hot. Yummy.
Hey Raysha!! Sell away~ you know, Joel might have some good ideas since he's on the internet all day long and he works for the biggest internet company ever!! :)
I would say easy $40 for a bag. I guess it all depends on how much it cost to make them, too. What a great talent you have!! I'd buy from ya :)
Hope all is well and, seriously, if you want, email me and we'll talk!!

Okay...nice to know that your husband appeals to other men...but as for your awesome homemade goodies, I've had similar questions--I quilt--if you've got the time, go for it. Let me know how much you decide to charge. There is definately a market out there. Just make sure that you pay yourself enough for the amount of time it takes to actually make the bag, not just enough to cover the materials. Paypal sounds like a good idea. Good luck!
