On Saturday, as we were getting the hose out to wash cars, I noticed a hole in the ground with fresh dirt all around it like a gopher had just recently dug the hole. This "hole" is right next to the gate that goes into our tiny little backyard area where I let Scotty play. I hadn't given the "hole" much more thought since then. But, today I was walking by the large arched window in our living room and saw something moving from the corner of my eye. I looked and saw a big snake shooting out of the "hole." It was by my guess, a little more than 3 feet long. I watched it glide it's way up into the bushes on the side of the house. CREEPY!!!
Scotty and I sat there and watched it for awhile as I explained to him that we NEVER, EVER touch or go near snakes. I left the window after awhile to do some things. After about 20 minutes, I went back to see if it was still out there. I didn't see it but.............Standing right beside the window was a roadrunner with a big grasshopper hanging out of it's mouth.
It looked like it was watching something in the window sill, so I looked to the left and there was a lizard running along the outside of the window.
The bird ran away and ran right over the snake hole. About 30 seconds later, the snake comes shooting out of the hole again and slithers to the bushes. The lizard just sat there very still until the snake was into the bushes and then ran away. I had looked closely at the snake, looked online and found that it is most likely a Sonoran gopher snake. Not poisonous but still SCARY. Now I don't feel like I can let Scotty play outside anymore. Man, the desert sucks!!

Hey Rasha- Sorry this is so late but I LOVE your wall hanging in fact I might just have to copy it. Well maybe I could change the year :) Hope you are doing well and I am glad you didn't get bitten by that snake.
I think I would never go outside again! jk I would freak out though. That would make me pretty nervous to have kids playing outside.
Hey! Gopher snakes are good - they eat rodents so no other snakes want to take up residence in your yard (ya know...like RATTLESNAKES!).
I found a cute little snake and thought it was some little pet, then found out it was an extremely poisenous type of snake and the antivenom isn't even available in AZ. Yikes!
Glad to hear that all is well at your place...well, as good as it could be with all those critters in your space!
Holy Cow, I would have had a heart attack. I hate snakes!
AHHH! I am the biggest wussy....I don't think I could go outside again! You are way tougher than me :).
ahhh...that is crazy. I remember this one run I did in Wilcox where I came across three different rattlesnakes! Washington doesn't have any poisonous snakes but I still am scared and jump a mile when I see a stick or wire or anything when Im running...the girls on my XC team think Im crazy. I am. Scared I tell ya
That would keep me up at night. Wow! Brianne would likely make us move if we had that issue.
Hey Raysha, love the wall hanging, looks great. How scary about the snake, I hate them, and I don't care if they are dangerous or not, a snake is a snake and they are scary to me.
Yikes! Very scary to find that in your back yard.
Freaky! Helpful or not, snakes scare the devil out of me! Yikes! I would ban myself and my family from anywhere near that hole!:) Cool about the roadrunner and the lizard, however!
